The return of the cat. While K was helping me close out the corporate apartment in Salem, OR our cat, Maggie, was residing with DC friend Susan Perry. Today her imperious self came back home.
In addition to dealing with Maggie the Cat we had other feline issues to deal with. I mentioned earlier that we sold our Jaguar to a friend in Oregon. She was transferring the sale price of the car to my checking account and was going to mail a check for the payoff to our bank once we verified that the funds were in my account. The transfer took place Wednesday 8/26 but the funds never appeared in my bank. Her bank says the transfer worked as it should and if the funds are not in my bank it is my problem, My bank says that the problem - whatever it is - is on the other bank's side. Funny how neither side can offer any help. A large number of dollars went somewhere - just not where it was supposed to.
After doing all we could about the missing money we walked down to Eastern Market to have dinner at an exceptional French restaurant (Montmarte). and confirmed our suspicion that most really good restaurants have excellent starters and desserts but are not as predictable in the main course arena. We are almost at a place where we will be ordering only appetizers - the right proportions, the most inventive ingredients and treatment, and the ability to turn any restaurant into a Tapas bar.
On top of other positive things about the day the weather has turned into that wonderful combination of late summer/early fall perfection of temperature and humidity that one can only dream of for most of the year, so walking home is almost magical. Capitol Hill is a great neighborhood under most circumstances but in weather like this is heaven.
